The Future Factory Initiative is a joint effort between SAP Research and industrial and academic partner organizations to foster research and development for the manufacturing industry.

Facilitates research and development in a living lab environment, providing an infrastructure for test, validation, and demonstration.

Shows leading edge software and the latest hardware developments with different scenarios, products, and prototypes in a distributed manufacturing environment. The testbed spans multiple manufacturers and demonstrates the viability of prototypes.

Provides the organizational setting to promote communication between manufacturing experts within and outside of SAP.

SAP Research Topics
Together with its partners, SAP Research develops new ideas for facilitating manufacturing operations. Key projects currently address a variety of topics including:
- Real-world integration – Seamless real-time integration of business management systems with physical devices and processes in the real world
- Adaptive manufacturing software – Highly configurable software infrastructure for building process-specific solutions for manufacturing operations management
- Innovative user interaction – Technology and infrastructure for building highly intuitive user interfaces for shop floor workers, foremen, and plant managers
