SAP AMERICAS MANAGEMENT TEAM: BILL MCDERMOTT, PRESIDENT & CEO, GLOBAL FIELD OPERATIONS, AND EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBER, SAP AG

Bill McDermott was appointed on April 2, 2008 as executive board member of SAP AG, the largest business software company in the world. McDermott has been responsible for managing SAP's strategic business activities in the United States, Canada and Latin America and in the Asia Pacific Japan region, which includes Japan, China and India.

SAP Americas, headquartered in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, is the recognized leader in providing collaborative business solutions to companies of all sizes in more than 25 industries. In 2006, SAP appeared for the first time on BusinessWeek's list of Most Innovative Companies. Additionally, SAP has been ranked #3 in the Computer Software category of FORTUNE magazine's America's Most Admired Companies. Since McDermott's arrival at SAP, the company in the U.S. has delivered 24 consecutive quarters of significant market share gains, revenue growth and customer satisfaction improvements.

Prior to joining SAP, McDermott served as executive vice president of Worldwide Sales & Operations at Siebel Systems, and president of Gartner, Inc., where he led the company's core operations.

He spent 17 years at Xerox Corporation, where he progressively rose through the ranks to become the company's youngest corporate officer and division president. He also served on the board of directors for two company subsidiaries. In 1997, through his leadership, McDermott's division received the Malcolm Baldrige Award, presented annually by the President of the United States to businesses judged to be outstanding in several areas.

McDermott is an active community leader and advocate for corporate social responsibility. On May 28, 2008, he was named Idealist of the Year by City Year Greater Philadelphia, for his civic leadership and "commitment to improving the community and the lives of those who live in Philadelphia." McDermott was honored for helping break down social barriers, promoting community service, and making the city a better place.

In 2007, McDermott was named Humanitarian of the Year by Triangle, Inc., a social services organization that focuses on helping people with disabilities. In 2006, McDermott received the Yitzhak Rabin Public Services Award in recognition of his contributions as a civic leader who has demonstrated a commitment to Israel as a source of technological innovation. In April of the same year, he received the Merit Award from the J.L. Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. The award is presented to alumni whose professional leadership and accomplishments have distinguished their alma mater.

In 2005, McDermott was elected to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the world's largest business federation representing three million companies and organizations, and to the Chamber Foundation Board. Also in 2005, he was selected to Treasury & Risk Management's 100 Most Influential People in Finance and was named a winner by Ernst & Young for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2005 Awards in Applied Technology. Additionally, McDermott was appointed vice chairman of the Education & the Workforce Task Force of the Business Roundtable in November 2005.

McDermott was recently appointed to the board of directors of ANSYS, a company that designs and develops engineering simulation solutions used to predict how product designs will behave in manufacturing and real-world environments. He also sits on the board of directors of Under Armour, a performance apparel company dedicated to technologically advanced products, and PAETEC Communications, a nationwide integrated communications provider. He is an active member of the Enterprise Software Roundtable, the Advisory Board for Villanova University, and the National Advisory Board for KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program). McDermott is also a board member of the Welfare to Work Partnership, a non-partisan organization that promotes career opportunities for former welfare recipients.

He serves as a charter member of the advisory council for the Hands on Network organization, a consortium of volunteer organizations in the U.S., the Philippines and China, that develops entrepreneurial strategies for bridging community resources and needs.

McDermott received an MBA degree from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, and he completed the Executive Development Program at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton Graduate School of Management. He received his B.S. degree in business administration from Dowling College. In March 2004, McDermott was elected to the Dowling College Board of Trustees and was also recognized by Dowling College as its Alumnus of the Year in 2003.

McDermott's career ascension was the focus of the Wall Street Journal's In the Lead column (January 22, 2007), which detailed how his formative years served as a catalyst for his later success at SAP. He also has been featured in numerous other publications:

  • CRM Magazine dubbed Bill �The Rock� in naming him among the industry�s Most Influential Leaders for 2008, saying he was �blazing a trail of leadership� for SAP. (Sept. 2008)
  • Handelsblatt of Germany quotes Bill�s assertion that innovation in business processes is as important as technology innovation in creating business value for customers. (Sept. 25)
  • The Times of India quotes Bill McDermott on SAP's innovative investment in six small and medium-sized Indian companies with potential for growth and collaboration. (June 5, 2008)
  • Bill describes SAP India as the "Jewel in the Crown" of SAP worldwide in an article in The Hindu Business Line in Mumbai. (June 4, 2008)
  • An article in the Colombian national daily La Republica describes SAP's goals in the region and Bill McDermott's view that a time of crisis is the best time to invest in technology.
  • The Associated Press, Barron's, BusinessWeek, eWeek, The Financial Times, The New York Times, Reuters News and The Wall Street Journal reported on Bill McDermott's appointment to SAP executive board. (April 2, 2008)
  • The Philadelphia Inquirer ran a feature Question & Answer column with Bill McDermott to look at his expanded global role and what it means for SAP globally and locally. (March 24, 2008)

  • The June 2006 issue of Selling Power magazine featured a cover story on McDermott and how he has led the transformation of "SAP [to] become the leading business [software] brand in the field."
  • The Philadelphia Inquirer, on Jan. 1, 2006, featured Bill McDermott as one of "10 to watch in 2006."
  • USA Today, on May 5, 2005, featured Bill McDermott and SAP America, as "taking market share from everyone."
  • The Philadelphia Inquirer, on Feb. 6, 2005, published a feature article that highlighted how SAP America has significantly grown its revenues and market share in the U.S. under McDermott's leadership, and how the company has established itself as the safe, stable market leader.
  • The January/February 2004 issue of Selling Power magazine featured a cover story on how McDermott has transformed SAP America into a customer-centric organization.
  • On Oct. 29, 2003, USA Today profiled McDermott as "an American CEO you might not know - but probably should."
  • McDermott was featured as one of the country's thought leaders on information technology in the Jan. 27, 2003 issue of Information Week.
  • In December 2002, Network World Magazine named McDermott one of the "Fifty Most Powerful People in Networking."
